Mick Fanning breaks silence over brother's tragic death

Australian surfing legend Mick Fanning has been plunged into mourning once again as he copes with the loss of his third brother, Edward, in Madagascar. The news adds another layer of sorrow to Fanning's already tumultuous journey, marked by personal tragedies and triumphs both in and out of the water.

Mick Fanning, a three-time world champion, has endured more than his fair share of trials. The devastating loss of his two other brothers, Pete and Sean, in 2015 and 1998 respectively, left indelible scars on the Fanning family. Yet, amidst the grief, Mick himself faced a near-fatal encounter when he survived a harrowing shark attack in July 2015. This traumatic event prompted him to take a hiatus from the competitive circuit the following year, highlighting the profound impact it had on his life and career.

Taking to Instagram to share his grief, Fanning delivered a wonderful tribute to his late brother, reminiscing about their shared love for surfing.

"Love you my brother," Mick wrote. "You taught me so much over the years about everything that life could deal up. The good and the bad you were my teacher. You introduced us all to surfing, the joy and freedom of riding a wave. The meaning of going to the ends of the earth to find waves to following a passion in the belief that surfing could be that ultimate job. As the years went on you would fall in and out of the ocean but your pure talent would always shine through. To where you ended up in teaching kids the joy of riding a wave. With out you I’m not sure what the world would of made of me so Thank you 🙏🏼

"Ed you had the biggest heart and were too loyal for your own good. Always sticking up for the underdog and caring for those who needed help. You gave everyone everything you had, and if you didn’t have it you’d still give it to them. You made your friends feel like super heroes and gave so many people the funniest memories that will last a life time.

"I know at times you found it hard to find your happy place. It warms my heart to know you found it these last few years. To hear the excitement in your voice each time we talked filled me with hope.

"I wish you could accept all the love people would give you. You weren’t perfect but no one wanted you to be. We just loved Ed. The Larikin who would throw a Shaka in every photo and would scream yeeeeew at the top of his lungs. As you dance down that final road into that eternal sunset please know we all love you mate. 🤙🏼🤙🏼 YEEEEEEEEEWWW HAHA🤙🏼🤙🏼

Thank you to all the family and friends that have shown us love and supported us during this difficult time. And thank you to Ed’s family and friends in Madagascar that showed him happiness is real.
The Australian Idol 2024 grand finale left viewers stunned and divided as Dylan Wright emerged victorious, leaving many fans feeling that Amy Reeves had been unjustly denied the crown.

The electrifying finale aired on Monday evening, showcasing the talents of Denvah Baker-Moller, Dylan Wright and Amy Reeves as they vied for the coveted title. However, it was Wright who clinched the top spot, much to the disappointment of numerous fans who had rallied behind Reeves.

Throughout the season, Wright had consistently impressed both judges and audiences alike with his remarkable performances. His emotional reaction upon winning the recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia and a $100,000 cash prize was palpable: “I’m about to cry!" he told the cheering crowd. "So, thanks!”

The finale kicked off with hosts Ricki Lee and Scott Tweedie addressing the absence of judge Marcia Hines, who had been hospitalised due to health issues potentially related to her Type 1 diabetes. The void left by Hines was temporarily filled by guest judge Guy Sebastian, who stepped in to ensure the show's continuity.

Despite her absence, Hines' spirit remained present as she conveyed her apologies via Instagram, assuring fans of her eagerness to return. “I feel fine,” she said on Monday night's show in response to Ricki Lee and Scott Tweedie. “I want to thank everybody who reached out towards me, you know. "I’m good. I go back to the hospital tonight,” she added jokingly.

As the finalists delivered their last performances, Reeves' rendition of Jessie J's "Bang Bang" stood out, earning praise from judge Kyle Sandilands and igniting a wave of support from viewers. Some fans proclaimed Reeves as the most deserving contestant in Idol history. “Call the police!" they wrote. "A robbery has taken place on #AustralianIdol. Amy has been absolutely shafted. Easily the best performer in idol history.”

Amidst the chorus of disappointment, there were voices of congratulations for Wright, acknowledging his talent and triumph in the competition. Despite the divided opinions, one thing remained certain – the passion and fervour of Australian Idol fans, who eagerly await the next chapter in the musical journeys of all the finalists.

Images: Channel Seven

Sad update after young Taylor Swift fan dies on way to concert

The tragic incident involving the Pokarier family, en route from Queensland to attend Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert in Melbourne, has garnered widespread attention and elicited an outpouring of sympathy from communities far and wide.

The devastating collision between their SUV and a semi-trailer near Dubbo, NSW, resulted in the tragic loss of 16-year-old Mieka Pokarier's life, while her 10-year-old sister Freya remains in critical condition in a Sydney hospital.

The girls' godmother, Karleigh Fox, has provided updates on Freya's condition, the severity of her injuries and the uncertain road ahead. Freya's delicate state, including brain injuries and other trauma, necessitates her being kept in an induced coma, a measure aimed at reducing further complications and providing her body with an opportunity to heal.

Fox, who organised a GoFundMe appeal for the devastated family, which has already raised over $60,000, says Freya is “not out of the woods yet”.

“We had some thorough chats with the incredible doctors about the potential prognosis and we are not out of the woods yet with risks of swelling in the brain and infection still evident. This could still be life threatening.

“We are keeping our girl in an induced coma for a few more days in order to give her body a chance to stay still and hopefully recover as much as possible.”

Mieka, remembered fondly as a bright and creative individual, had long harboured a passion for Taylor Swift's music and was eagerly anticipating her first live concert experience. Her untimely passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew her, with friends and family expressing their grief and sharing memories of her warmth, humour and kindness. The hashtag #forever16 has become a poignant tribute to her memory, encapsulating the sense of loss felt by those who knew her.

In the wake of Mieka's tragic death, her friends have found solace in commemorating her life through Taylor Swift-themed friendship bracelets.

As the Pokarier family navigates this unimaginable tragedy, they have been enveloped in a wave of support from their community, who stand united in offering comfort and assistance during this difficult time.

Images: GoFundMe / Instagram

Bunnings' inspired makeover proves a smash hit with Bluey fans

Bunnings' latest Bluey inspired makeover has proven to be a hit among fans, as they brought to life part of the cartoon-world.

The hardware giant collaborated with the hit children's cartoon and rebranded six of its Australian stores and one New Zealand outlet with the moniker "Hammerbarn."

This is an homage to a popular episode with the same name, where the cartoon heelers go to a hardware store that looks exactly like Bunnings.

“We’re excited to be working with BBC Studios and Ludo Studio to bring Hammerbarn to life in stores across the country,” says Ryan Baker, chief customer officer of Bunnings.

The rebranding goes beyond the exterior with special Hammerbarn merch, Bluey-branded trolleys, and Bluey-themed workshops, meet-and-greets and scavenger hunts every weekend.

“Our team across Australia have had kids and parents referring to Bunnings as Hammerbarn ever since the episode aired, so making this a reality in our stores for customers is really special," Baker said.

“We wanted the Hammerbarn experience to be accessible to as many ‘Bluey’ fans and customers as we could, so it’s great to have a Hammerbarn transformation in each state – even down to the kids’ trolleys that have been rebranded."

Hammerbarns resemblance to Bunnings is no coincidence as the episode reportedly took inspiration from a real store in Keperra, Queensland.

“The design of Hammerbarn draws inspiration from the Bunnings Keperra store in Brisbane, the home of Bluey, which adds an extra layer of significance," Ludo Studios, the creators of the series said.

“We are thrilled to offer fans the opportunity to experience Hammerbarn for real life; it’s everything we’ve ever wanted!”

Images: Perth Now

"They lost it": Margot Robbie's surprise encounter with Barbie fans

Margot Robbie has recalled a sweet story about when she overheard a group of men talking about the Barbie movie, before giving them the surprise of their life.

At a screening of the Barbie movie in Los Angeles, the Aussie actress told the audience of the heartwarming moment she encountered in Scotland, shortly after the film's release last July.

At the SAG-AFTRA screening of the blockbuster movie, Robbie began, “I had this brilliant experience.”

“I was in a pub in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and I listened for about 30 minutes to a group of guys on a bachelor party discussing the Barbie movie, not knowing that I was sitting two or three feet away from them.”

Robbie continued, “It was just truly fascinating. There were people at the table who refused to see the Barbie movie."

“One guy was like, ‘Dude, it is a cultural moment, don’t you want to be a part of culture?’ And the other guy was like, ‘I’ll never see it,’ and by the end he did want to see it. It was a whole thing."

“I wasn’t going to go up to them, but then I did.”

Before leaving the pub, Robbie casually waltzed up to the group of men who “lost it” when they discovered Barbie herself had overheard their conversation.

“At the last minute as I was walking out I went to their table and I went ‘Thank you for seeing the Barbie movie’,” she added.

“It was very funny, they lost it. It took a full minute for them to realise and I was practically out the door and they went ‘Ohhhh’.

“People’s reactions to the movie have been the biggest reward of this entire experience.”

The heartwarming story comes fresh on the heels of Margot being snubbed for a Best Actress nomination at this year's Oscars for the Barbie movie, which caused an uproar on social media.

Margot addressed the snub at the LA screening, saying there's “no way to feel sad when you’re this blessed.”

“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director,” she added.

“What she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing. What she pulled off, it really is."

“We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that and some, way more than we ever dreamt it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”

Madonna sued by fans over concert starting late

Madonna is being sued by two former fans, after her concert started more than two hours behind schedule.

The lawsuit was filed in Brooklyn federal court on Wednesday, with New York residents and former fans Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden saying the pop star’s actions were "unconscionable and unfair.”

The men are suing the veteran performer for "deceptive trade practices" and "false advertisement", after they attended her concert at the New York Barclays Center last December.

As per the flyers for the show, Madonna was set to take to the stage at 8:30pm, but the highly-anticipated show didn’t begin until well after 10:30pm.

The complainants said that the callous delay resulted in the fans facing issues like "limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased public and private transportation costs" after the show on December 13th ended past midnight.

According to Fellows and Hadden, this constitutes a breach of contract.

"Madonna had demonstrated flippant difficulty in ensuring a timely or complete performance, and Defendants were aware that any statement as to a start time for a show constituted, at best, optimistic speculation," the statement read.

The lawsuit went on to claim that Madonna’s disregard for timeliness was not an isolated incident, with her following two shows also starting hours behind schedule.

They said the performer's actions "constitute not just a breach of their contracts but also a wanton exercise in false advertising" and "negligent misrepresentation."

Madonna has a history of beginning her shows late, the case claims: "Throughout her 2016 Rebel Heart Tour, her 2019-2020 Madame X Tour, and prior tours... Madonna continuously started her concerts over two hours late," with this history constituting a class-action status for the lawsuit.

Back in 2016, Madonna was called out for her late behaviour, dismissively joking, “I’m hardly ever late. It’s you people that get here early that’s the problem. Just come late and I won’t have to come early.”

Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal's highest-profile cricketer and a well-known figure in international T20 leagues, has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a court in Nepal.

The 23-year-old leg spinner, who has played for both the Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL), was convicted of raping an 18-year-old woman in an incident that occurred on August 21, 2022.

After the Kathmandu district court found Lamichhane guilty of rape last month, the sentence was officially announced on Wednesday. Lamichhane's lawyer stated that they would launch a higher court appeal, expressing dissatisfaction with the court's decision.

Saroj Ghimire, Lamichhane's legal representative, told Reuters, "We are not convinced about the decision of the court ... The court has whimsically declared Sandeep to be a convict. Sandeep will go to the higher court for justice."

The court not only sentenced Lamichhane to eight years in prison but also imposed a fine and ordered him to pay compensation of approximately $5,630 to the victim, whose identity remains confidential. The legal repercussions are severe, signalling a significant downfall for the cricketer who was once the face of Nepali cricket.

Lamichhane's cricket career, which took him to prestigious T20 leagues in Australia, India, Pakistan and the West Indies, has come to a screeching halt. The leg spinner, who had been suspended as Nepal's captain and taken into custody after an arrest warrant was issued, was released on bail during the court proceedings.

The victim reported the sexual assault in August 2022, leading to Lamichhane's arrest – but despite the legal proceedings, the cricketer was permitted to continue playing matches, causing controversy and drawing criticism from various quarters.

Lamichhane's return to the cricket field in February last year was met with cheers from fans, but it also ignited anger among Nepalis who disavowed the national team due to his involvement. During an international tournament in Dubai, Scotland's cricketers refused to shake hands with Lamichhane

Lamichhane's fall from grace serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability, even for high-profile individuals in the world of sports. The legal battle may continue with the planned higher court appeal, but the conviction and sentencing mark a significant chapter in the downfall of a once-celebrated cricketer.

Images: Getty

Bruce Lehrmann targeted at the cricket by vigilantes

Bruce Lehrmann has been forced to flee the Sydney Cricket Ground after being targeted by four men who flung relentless abuse at him.

The former Liberal staffer was attending the third Test match that saw Australia take on Pakistan at Sydney's Entertainment Quarter on Friday with his best friend, when the men started slinging insults at him.

The four men, who appeared to be in their 30s, followed Lehrmann for roughly 300 metres while he was walking back to the SCG, as they taunted him over Brittany Higgins' rape allegations, mocking his physical appearance, trying to spit on him, and telling him to jump off the top bay.

Despite always vehemently denying the rape allegations, the men shouted at Lehrmann saying, "Don't you know what consent is Bruce? You f***ing fat pr*ck."

"Keep your d*** in your pants, f***ing rapist."

After entering the SCG grounds, the men followed him up the escalator while continuing to insult him.

"You up in the top bay?" they yelled. "You pr**k, jump off it - we will be ready to p*ss on you."

A member of the group taunted him to "go back to your air conditioned mansion, you pr**k", adding that "Channel Seven will protect you".

Mr Lehrmann's $2000-per-week rental property, on Sydney's northern beaches, was paid for by the TV network for a year in exchange for two exclusive interviews on its Spotlight program.

Lehrmann was so shaken by the incident, that he and his friend fled the venue.

Mr Lehrmann later described the incident as "abhorrent" and slammed the men for abusing him in front of children and their parents who were trying to enjoy the Pink Test, which is a special match to raise money for breast cancer.

"The abhorrent physical and verbal abuse, threats and taunts from the idiots towards me are a reflection of the intellect and character of those blokes," he said.

"What is most concerning is they thought it appropriate to hurl the profanity-laden abuse around dozens of children and families who, like me, simply wanted to enjoy a fun day at the cricket supporting Pink Test."

"Did you forget?": Nicole Kidman hounded by angry fans

Nicole Kidman, the famous Aussie star with a Hollywood career spanning four decades, has found herself embroiled in controversy after she proudly announced her collaboration with fashion house Balenciaga.

The announcement, made via Instagram, featured Kidman showcasing the brand's latest designs during their Fall 2024 show in Los Angeles. However, the excitement from Kidman was met with a swift and vehement response from fans who couldn't overlook the brand's troubling past.

Balenciaga had previously come under fire for a controversial photoshoot that sparked widespread criticism and accusations of "paedophilia" and "child exploitation". The offending campaign featured children clad in bondage harnesses and costumes, causing an immediate uproar online. The hashtag #cancelBalenciaga trended across social media platforms at the time, putting immense pressure on the fashion brand to issue an apology.

Despite the global backlash last year, Kidman's recent association with Balenciaga has reignited the flames of discontent. Fans flooded the comments section of her Instagram post with expressions of disappointment and frustration. One user implored Kidman, stating, "Seriously? Come on Nic. You're better than this. UGH." Another echoed the sentiment, saying, "No. You too. Did you forget? This designer has been cancelled. They promote ads the public didn't want. It was wrong."

The criticism did not stop there, with another fan expressing their disappointment: "Well, that's disappointing, but not surprising, really." Another comment labelled Kidman's decision as "disgusting", highlighting the continued disapproval of Balenciaga's controversial past.

This incident raises questions about celebrities' responsibilities when endorsing brands and the impact of their choices on public opinion. Kidman, who has previously shared her approach to online criticism, has made it clear that her preference is to avoid such feedback to maintain creative freedom.

In a recent interview, she revealed, "Don't tell me, I don't really want to know – it will stop me doing what I want to do." Kidman acknowledged the existence of hurtful comments but emphasised her commitment to staying true to her choices.

While Kidman's determination to navigate her career with a focus on personal choices and creative freedom is understandable, her association with a brand that has faced severe backlash for controversial practices inevitably places her in the centre of a heated public debate.

As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how Kidman will address the mounting criticism and whether this incident will prompt a response from Balenciaga.

Images: Instagram

Nick Kyrgios' honest thoughts on Shane Warne's open letter

In 2015, late cricket legend Shane Warne posted an open letter Nick Kyrgios on social media, calling out the then hot-headed tennis player's fiery behaviour off-court.

"Dear Nick, we all realise you're only 20 and have a lot to learn buddy, but please don't waste your talent," the letter began.

"Everyone in the world, especially us Australians want to respect you. You need to respect the game of tennis and yourself. We all make mistakes.

"You're testing our patience mate, show us what you're made of and how hungry you are to be the best in the world. It's time to step up and start winning, no excuses," he added in the scathing letter.

"We all make mistakes. It's how we learn from them and the way we conduct ourselves when we lose that shows true character. You're testing our patience mate," he concluded.

A then 20-year-old Kyrgios had just beat Spanish champion Rafael Nadal during the 2015 Wimbledon, but also attracted a lot of controversy after insulting Stan Wawrinka at a tournament in Montreal, Canada.

This was a particularly difficult time in Kyrgios' career, as he was suspended for 28-days and got a $34,705 fine from the ATP.

Since the incident, Kyrgios has managed to get his professional life back on track, and in a recent interview with Piers Morgan on his show Uncensored, the tennis star shared that he never read the letter.

"I saw it and didn't read it. I'm never going to be the first one to go out on social media and put someone down," he told the host.

He added that he believed that Warne would be proud of how far he's come.

"I look back at that letter and at how far I've come and I'd say he would be proud for sure. I’ve had a pretty successful career. I feel I've won a lot more than I've lost."

Images: Getty

Seinfeld drops huge news for Aussie fans

In a world filled with laughter and punchlines, one man has consistently stood out as a comedy legend: Jerry Seinfeld. The comedic genius, best known for his iconic sitcom Seinfeld, is set to embark on a tour Down Under, gracing Australia with his comedic prowess once again in June 2024. Get ready to laugh until your sides hurt because the king of observational humour is coming to Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

Seinfeld last performed in Australia in 2017, and fans have been eagerly awaiting his return. In a statement, he expressed his excitement, saying, "I have loved Australia since my first tour there in 1998, and I cannot wait to come back to visit some of the greatest comedy fans in the world."

So, what's the deal with the tour? Tickets will go on sale next week, with a Telstra Plus member pre-sale starting on Tuesday, November 14, at 12 noon (local time). The general public can get their hands on these coveted tickets starting on Friday, November 17, at 12 noon (local time) through www.tegdainty.com.

While Seinfeld is undoubtedly thrilled to be returning to Australia, let's not forget that he once playfully described Melbourne as the "anus end of the world". It's a joke that still resonates with fans, even though it may not have sat well with some Melburnians.

In 1998, during a one-man show on Broadway, Seinfeld playfully jabbed at Melbourne, saying, "That's where I started crawling back up the butt." This humorous comment didn't sit too well with then-Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett and Major Events boss Ron Walker. The joke sparked quite a stir, with Walker even offering to send Seinfeld a tube of Rectinol, a haemorrhoid cream, in jest.

Seinfeld later issued a humorous apology through his LA publicists, saying, "Australia is one of my favourite places in the world. I never meant to offend Melbourne by comparing it to an anus. I was saying, if you think of the world as an ass, Melbourne is somewhere in the vicinity of the rectum."

While Kennett was not too pleased with the comedian's playful jab, it's safe to say that Seinfeld's comment didn't leave any lasting impact. His sitcom continues to be one of the most beloved shows of all time, and Seinfeld himself is celebrated as one of the greatest stand-up comedians in history.

As he prepares for his 2024 Australian tour, fans can look forward to witnessing the comedic mastery that has made Jerry Seinfeld an icon in the world of humour. Promoter Paul Dainty couldn't be happier to be a part of the upcoming tour, stating, "He is, without a doubt, the world's most renowned and accomplished stand-up comedian. This tour provides an opportunity for Australians to witness the mastery of his craft."

Seinfeld's humour has resonated with audiences for more than 40 years, and it's no wonder why he chose comedy over work. As he once said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, "It seemed much easier than work, and more fun than work." Of course, he added, "It turned out to be much harder than work, and not easy at all. But you still don't have to ever really grow up, and that's the best thing of all."

In 1989, Seinfeld teamed up with Larry David to create Seinfeld, which became the most successful comedy series in the history of television, running for nine seasons. He has continued to entertain with projects like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix and comedy specials such as Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill.

In addition to his stand-up and TV work, Seinfeld has ventured into the world of film. He has written and directed a yet-to-be-released movie titled Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. The film is set in 1963 Michigan and revolves around two rival cereal companies racing to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. With a star-studded cast including Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant and James Marsden, it's a project to keep an eye out for.

As Seinfeld prepares to hit the Australian stage once more, you can expect the iconic comedian to serve up his trademark brand of humour, leaving audiences in stitches and reminding everyone why he's considered one of the greats. Don't miss your chance to catch Jerry Seinfeld live on stage during his 2024 Australian tour. Tickets will be selling like hotcakes, or should we say, like Pop-Tarts fresh from the toaster!

Images: Instagram
